Yes, electret transducers can and do depolarize over time. That "softer" sound you're hearing could be an indication. Does one channel seem brighter than the other? A channel imbalance would be another indication. I once owned the ATH7s. It's a shame that AT is no longer repairing them. Enjoy them as-is.
