"Eartools" is the name of the Equation headphone line, I think. So, the RP21 is an "Eartool".

Have you read the online reviews for these phones?

Now, I haven't auditioned the M50 myself, but the M40 has been around a long time. The sound of the M40 (which I also have NOT heard) is said to be on the bass-y side and its appearance isn't as finely crafted, but it is cheaper, if your budget is straining.
