So the HD280 sound was good?

Then how about the Sennheiser HD212 or HD25-1 (not the 25SP, which has been controversial)?

I definitely check out the Audio Technica A500 that MX recommended and also the classic ATH-M50S (see below). You might also like the Sony V6 which benefit from changing the earpads to ones made by Beyerdynamic.
