That is not entirely true. You can still get a perfect seal with the foam or white rubber flange tips. The quality of the seal is produced by insertion and removal techniques not on the material. I don't know about getting a custom ear impression for the ER-4P/S in terms of maintaining the highest level of audio fidelity as the stock foam / rubber tips were fine for me.
