I still didn't had the time to check it, I had a lot of other things to do this day-off, and at work, it's quite hectic at the mo. But I will, for sure,

Hi digi01,
Some of us in sgheadphones ordered and paid for SOHA boards and assembled buffers from you way back in May. Although we have received the SOHA boards, we have not received the buffer boards. Nor have you been contactable re: this matter via PM. Now that you are actually taking orders on your website, can you please confirm if you will send us the buffers?

Thanks.

Just to let you know that the boards arrived just today morning. I should order some components to test them.

I hope I will be able to post a pic.

Things are going well I think,

I'm slowly getting there, just need the two 360 Ohm resistors.
Where are all the rest of you SOHA builders? I'm feeling a bit lonely here <frown>

That looks great, Gewa. If you don't mind, allow me to link your photo directly, especially since it's on point with the thread:

What are those coupling caps you've used? Have you had good experience with them?

I'm still stuck on the Milletts I was working on - I've sat down and tried to start the SOHA several times, but stuff keeps coming up. <mad>

Thanks tomb.

The coupling cap's are from Auricap. I once used them in a phono stage and they brought more "musicality" to the whole sound picture.

I'm also interested in a Millett but I can't seem to find a board for it.

The funny part is though that I still have to buy me a decent headphone. I think I will start with a Koss "PortaPro" or a Sennheiser "HD 555", they are not to expensive.

Regards

Gewa,

For inexpensive, the KSC75 is almost impossible to beat, IMHO. The PortaPro is very good, too. One gets you the strongest bass known to any open portable (PortaPro). The other one gets you bass not quite as strong, but transparently clear, sparkling highs (KSC75). Personally, I think everyone should have both. At their prices, that's pretty easy to achieve. <wink>

For a Senn, the HD580 is at a quality/price point impossible to beat by any other Senn - about $150 at many places. The only difference in this model and the HD600 is different coloring, screen grilles, and a slightly different cable. The HD580 was the premium headphone for Senn for many years. At 300 ohms, the high gain and limited current of the SOHA (in the basic configuration) is tailor-made for the Senn HD580/600/650.

For the Millett, please allow me to suggest that you participate in Mr. Cetoole's thread on this very same forum:
New Boards for ...eview Requested. This board represents a new paradigm with the Millett: built-in E12 delay circuit, built-in TREAD/STEPS power regulation, built-in Diamond Buffers, and a symmetrical layout for superior enclosure design (thanks to GregVDS).

We would like to generate some more interest and comment/reviews before ordering prototypes. An additional thread is stickied on DIYForums.org, the Millett support site.

SOHA builders: Please excuse the headphone review and the potential thread hijack for the Millett. I am looking forward to the SOHA, too, and suggesting good headphones for an amp design is within context, I think. <smile>

You most welcome Tomb,

I twice Tomb here, Gewa, go and support the new Millett too (same excuses and reserve regarding this thread subject against this post). I still have the last old board for Millett, but would really like to try the new one (you know my symmetry problem).

For 'decent' headphones, I just would like to give another sound advice. I'm frankly a Grado partisan. I have at home two Senns (HD570 and an old HD450, big and round) Really, they seem distant and lacking dynamics in comparison to my Grado (rs-325i, quite a price, but I'm convinced you will have 80 to 90% of the sound in a 60 or 80). Look also for Alessandro ones.

Very local comment: if you wanna go and see the grados, you have a Hi-end shop in the lowest part of the Chaussée d'Ixelles in Brussels. For the Senns, I would go in the Hi-end shop of the chaussée de Wavre, not that far from te first one.

Ultrasone look interesting, and I would like to try AKG too (for the last one, go to the piano/keyboard shop at the bottom of the Mont des arts close to the gare centrale).

I still don't have 627 to stuff my board, hence some testing delay, and Mouser seem to be in backorder mode on this...

All the best,

To start my headphone adventure I ordered the PortaPro and also the KSC75 for my wife <smile> This is just to see if I turn in to a frequent headphone user before I start spending big bucks on the Hi-End models.

Also Greg, thanks for the advice.
Did you already found your camera so that we can see how your boards came out <evil grin>

I think you will enjoy the SOHA and Porta Pro combination. I had leant my SOHA to friend who is being tempted into this addictive hobby and he had just bought these headphones - he only had good things to say. I am a Grado fan but have recently been smitten with the AKG's. I can thoroughly identify with the "curse you ... " thread <big grin>..dB

Gewa, Yes, I should have done this already, at the mo my XD card is broken, so I only have the default 16Mb one, and it's full with my children pics, so I should first dump them out of it, then take pics, then redump those, format somehow the result, put online and post, I promise, I will do this, but with small children ,you know, your day begins at 21h00 at best, so sometimes I'm lazy at night ;-)

Ok, I'll do that,

All the best,

Ok, I admit, the silkscreen was messed by a former atempt at panelizing everything, so things do not appear that good.

Now for the picture quality, I'm sorry, no money to buy the last Leica M8 <crying>
