Following the highly succesful GB for SV3 boards and expecting that there will be hundreds of queries on construction, technical issues etc I propose the inauguration of this thread which should be useful to those interested.

Bump - same here, I'm still a week or two away from building mine, but I didn't want to lose this thread.

I think something that should definitely appear on this first page would be:
*link to schematic
*link to parts list (if available)
* maybe a link to the other Soha threads ?

I'm excited to build one of these, but the information above seems to be really difficult to find, and would be a welcome addition to the first page of a thread!

Thanks!

Don't forget example pictures - I'll post some from my builds over the weekend. <smile>

Zang,

Thanks, the website is helpful. The addition of a true parts list with recommended Mouser, Digikey, Newark, etc part numbers would also be very useful. It would make it much easier to track down parts that will fit. There was a similar parts list floating around in the original SOHA threads, but there's no guarantee that those point to point parts will fit with your boards.

Thanks, Brian

I posted this in the other thread but I may as well post it here as well. These are the parts I used for my SOHA board and they all fit perfectly. Keep in mind that I didnt go the cheapest route so if you want to save some money, there is plenty of room to do so.

www.parl.clemso...M-digiBoard.xls

At the bare minimum, at least it'll give you an idea of parts that do fit.

rreynol:

I notice that you have a couple of extra caps listed in your BOM that aren't listed as alternates.
The values for these are not identical to the original specified values. Can you clarify this?

Which ones? I'm not quite sure which you are talking about.

What seems to be the best ccs? Is there any benefits to using one over the others?
Also, what about the difference between the TO-220 and TO-92 voltage regulators? It seems like the TO-92 packages are in the 100mA range, is this enough?

According to the original article, the MOSFET (LND150) is the all-around best. They only included the other CCS options because of unavailability outside of Mouser.

If you intend on using anything more than the basic 2134/2132 opamp, you need the TO-220's. An OPA551 is good for 200ma, for instance. More important, Steinchen has already said the buffers he's working on will require heat sinks on those reg's (the TO-220 ones).

Hey guys, I made an ordering mistake and only bought 2 of the 4 100uF@100v caps for C3 thru C6... I do have 4 220uF@63v caps... Will these work for C3 thru C6? Rob

I remember asking a similar question when putting together my first protoboard build - the answer went something along the lines of 'these caps will see around 80v when under not load or if another component fails - they really should be 100v to ensure they last and continue to do their job'.

Thanks raromachine... Drat! I was afraid that was going to be the answer (because of the high voltage rating) lucky for me a kind soul is going to fix me up.

Nice. I always liked the bright red color of the cerafines. I guess I'll have to post the pics of SOHA#2 work in progress later this evening. I'm waiting on two BG NX1000uF caps from Parts Connexion to finish it out. The caps are a mix of Silmic II, Nichi FG, and BG with Mundorf Zns for coupling and mostly PRP and Holco resistors (everything but the LED resistor).

rreynol, Woo Hoo! I bet some 1000uF Black Gate caps are going to cost a pretty penny! BTW I used your BOM and the only thing out of stock at mouser was the 11K resistors. They also had none of the first choice 12v+- regulators (they had the ALT ones tho') in the TO-220 package.
