For those of you who have not been following the Dynalo PCB project, the official website is here.

The "grandfather" project information is available in the Headwize project archive here.

Here is a picture of the Dynalo Rev C bare printed circuit board:

If you have completed the Dynalo Rev C board, feel free to post the results of your hard work here.

I finally got my Dynalo working. I haven't heard it yet, but all of my measurements looked good. I had 25K resistors rather than 25 ohm resistors, then I had a solder bridge on one of my transistors and burned a resistor and transistor, but everything looks good now. I am awaiting my Par-metals case and I am going to add a loop out, to use it as a preamp/headphone amp.

Nice work Dan. It's good to see that the you are continually improving the project documentation and have taken it upon yourself to order more boards. Thanks to your efforts, this project is much more accessible.

I did exactly the same thing with the output resistors. What gets me is that I measured each one by hand and missed the "k" each and every time. Amazingly, even with the large output impedance and small output current, it still was easy to hear that it sounded distinctly better than an Ipod mini by itself, even with lousy earbuds.

I got my Dynalos running for some time and will case them up next week, so expect pictures soon.

Any chance do get some more Dynalo- and Dynahi-PSU-boards ?

Very Nice SFT! I was going to post that I got a chance to hear my Dynalo finally and that I cased it up in an old B&K Pro 5 preamp chassis, but it looks totally ghetto, compared to yours SFT. It sounds great though and it powered by 2 TREADS and a toroidal transformer.

FWIW, I'd be interested in more PSU boards as well <smile>

Maybe a separate thread should get started about power supply boards for the Dyna amps since there seems to be interest (add me to that list <wink>) and so we don't clutter up the build thread.

The Dynalo currently sits 2nd on my list of things to be built this winter so hopefully I'll get that far.

SFT, how'd you do the lettering on your front panel?

How important is the transistor matching for this amp? I'm sure I could build the testing circuit(s), although I don't have a bench power supply. I suppose I could finish up my STEPS and use that.

How many of each transistor are you guys buying to ensure a good match?

I had completely forgot about transistor matching...now this project will be a bit more expensive than I originally anticipated <frown>

Transistor matching is important IMHO. You could either do it yourself, or I think that Dan Gardner may have some already matched ones (he mentioned this in another thread awhile back).

For low level matching, a 9V battery is fine... you won't be able to match at 16mA current draw, but the transistors are quite linear and matching at lower Ic levels is fine. If you do your own matching, I would buy at least 50 of each (2SA1015 / 2SC1815). The FETs are expensive, so perhaps an extra pair but the BJTs are ~$0.13 each. Just remember to get the same gain range (see the datasheets).

PCB Update: Dynalo Rev C PCBs are back in stock! They should be readily available for quite some time.

My friend who works for an advertising company made it.
they have a lot of professional equipment like this:

I think a good way for lettering is

it's cheap but still beautiful.

So you just need a PSU board then?

you need a reason to procrastinate? I need a reason to study. So much so that I eventually paniked about not doing anything and moved my hifi out of the room and upstairs so as not to distract myself. It turns out to sound so much better up there that now I moved my cd collection there too.

Oh and no further progress on the study bit <mad>

Infact I've spent more time looking for a cheap way to get the JFETs for the stupid dynalo board then I have studying so far this cram block <rolling eyes>

Is hand matching the resistors for the Dynalo needed if you're using the 1% RN60s? If so, is it required for all of the resistors or only some of the positions?

Also...are RN60 resistors needed? Or can I use RN55? (I only ask because I already have most of the values needed in RN55).

RN55 are fine and you don't need to match resistors
