Oddly enough the PCB's came yesterday....they must have been lost in the mail system for quite some time!

I have just finished throwing together a YAHA using spare parts I had around, a Philips ECC86 and an OPA2132. I did not really plan the layout (apart from sizing the board so that it will fit a Hammond case), so between that and the oversized caps there's quite a bit of wasted space. I'm also a noob so the build is pretty ugly, but I guess there's nothing like doing for learning. <smile>

Sounds pretty good, leaner than my Millett Starving Student hybrids and with less impactful bass, but for what it cost I have to say I am liking it quite a bit. I am powering it with a 12V 1A regulated power supply. The only strange thing is that B+ is different for the two channels, one has .7V or so less than the other.

Thanks for designing a very affordable, easy to build amp. <smile>

Edit: cannot figure out how to attach pics, here they are.

Is it just me, or are these little amps addictive? It seems that whenever I have a handful of suitable parts they some how find their way into a new YAHA project! They also make for a nice break from more complicated and labor intensive projects. I even retrofitted one of my older ones with a Szekeres output stage. The Mosfet's load resistors are 100 ohm, 1w, and the circuit is airwired as a direct drop in replacement of the opamp (using the existing output cap) and I also removed the tube's input cap, and added a cathode resistor of 1k ohm. The quality of sound has greatly improved, especially the high end, after these changes.

Clearly addictive !
<evil grin>

The haunting simplicity of this amp has a huge psychological effect:
The experience of SUCCESS !

This is one of the strongest human needs.
And it is most satisfying if success is a low-hanging fruit.

Hey guys,
thanks to everyone for all the info in these threads <big grin>. Its quite addictive to read about tubes <sticking tongue out> .

I've ordered some parts and am planning to build a Yaha amp with an Ecc86. I need this to drive 320 to 600ohm headphones, so I'm going to use a +12/-12v powersupply using a LT1210 to split the voltage. This means I can drop the output capacitors, as the opamp output (the recommended NJM4456 for start) will have no DC offset, correct?

Am I thinking right? I have still to go through all the posts, so excuse me if this has been asked hundreds of times <rolling eyes>

Thanks for your input and take care,
Niko

Welcome Neuuubeh.
You cannot do that plan so easy.
The input tube signal reference is ground, not -12VDC.

What you could do is to isolate the tube and the opamp input with a cap / resistor combination and have the tube powered by a high voltage and the opamp as described with +/-12VDC.

This principle is shown here:

Late answer:
Yes. The 6922 has the same pinout as the 6DJ8 / ECC88 / E88CC
