sijosae, these simple wood chasses are perfect to show off your work. The layout of the electronic parts is elegant. What is the size of each chassis? Did you have to cut the wood?

As soon as I can, I will update the Szekeres and Stokes articles with these pics. Thanks!!

cmoy, left blocks in "Picture-1" are original blocks.
I had to cut some of these blocks. (edge cutting, half size cutting, etc)

size:
- each block = 120 x 23 x 8 mm
- each chassis = 120 x 75 x 23 mm (Length x Width x Height)

Those are very nice wood blocks.

What is the brand name of this wood block toy? (I understand that it may not be sold under the same name in other parts of the world, or may not be sold in the US/EUR at all; and that the name you buy it under may not be written in european letters. But any clue might help me find it here.)

Thanks JMT and PRR.

I don't remember the name of those blocks.(I will ask my wife.)
Those may be made in China.
Similar as Lego or domino, but those hundreds of blocks are all same shape and size as above "Picture-1". (Most simplest toy.)
My son love this toy. Me too. hehe

PRR, I asked my wife.
She said that those famous blocks are "KAPLA".

There are many related web sites.
This is one of that. --> http://www.kaplaworld.com

Those are grand little cases sijosae! Tube-heads have always been into displaying the tubes and transformers and whatnot on top of the amp, but this is one of the only times I've seen someone show off a solid state circuit like that :) with your designs, it would be a shame not to show it off!

So if you are stealing your kid's blocks, is he going to start stealing your electronics? When are we going to start seeing Sijosae Jr.'s electronic marvels? ;)

peace,
phidauex

Those blocks look to be made of yellow pine. Perhaps, some wooden floor planks would do, from Home Depot, if Kapla's are not so easy to find.

Though, with sijosae's artistry, he could turn plywood into an oaken masterpiece <smile>

Sijosae:

Here in San Juan, Puerto Rico, I can get small pieces of the finest tropical hardwood anytime I want. Costs? I get it for free! That's right! I don't have to pay for it!

I live near a lumberyard that sells local and imported hardwoods. This company also cuts wood for its clients. So they always throw away small pieces. Now, while these small pieces are useless to them, they are still good for small projects. So in their trash bin, I can find all sorts of great woods: Teak, Mahogany, Rosewood, Purpleheart, Imbuia, Maga, Guayacan, etc., etc.

I suggest that you find a place in your city that is similar. Every city in the world has a least one company that sells and cuts tropical hardwoods. It could be a lumberyard, furniture manufacturer, or a cabinet maker. Since your amps are so small, you will always be able to find something.

As they say: "Seek and you shall find!"

He, he! You liked that idea! Once you visualize it, all sorts of possibilities come to your mind.

You have to do some reverse engineering to find a good source of wood. Just imagine that your are extremely wealthy and you need a luxurious Rosewood or Teak cabinet. Then you find the companies in your area that do this kind of wood work. Bingo! That's it! You found the right place! Just remember: Look for the companies that do the finest work for the wealthiest clients.

Usually, what these people throw away is cut perfectly for you! You do NOT have to do much work! Here I'm talking about pieces that are .5 to 1 inch by 1 or 2 feet! As the saying goes: "One man's junk is another man's gold!"

The best time for to go wood hunting is usually Sundays, and you must dress up a little bit (no blue-jeans or T-shirts). On Sundays there's nobody around, except for a security guard. Usually, these security guards are bored. So they love to talk and trade jokes! Actually, I have one security guard that collects good pieces of wood for me. All for free, of course!

"Seek and you shall find!" This saying from the Christian Bible is applicable here. I'm sure you will find some 1st class pieces that are very, very nice! I suspect that you will find either Rosewood or Teak in Korea! Great! When you do find them, send me an email and tell me about it. I will probably fall to the floor laughing!

Here's another great saying: "Where there's a will, there's a way!" A good measure of will power helps in these wood hunting safaris.
