I have a couple of LM6172 opamps (dual version of the 6171 used in Jan's amp project)lying around and wondered if this couldn't be used in place of the 6171's? I see the opamps are being run in class A and I could heatsink the chips to allow for the extra heat if necessary. It will save me $40 in parts if there is no other impediment. |

Dear Tobes, Although the LM6172 indeed can be used (provided you have decent headsinking!) it will not give as good results as separate LM6171's. Thermal crosstalk will reduce performance. I admittedly do not have any experience with the LM6172 though and I do not know have large the differences are. You have to try for yourself :-) Cheers, Jan |
