As to whether or not you should get a better headphone, it is an individual choice. I've been in your situation a few years ago, everything started with a simple Cmoy amp. All i had was a lousy Genius headphone and i needed an external volume controller as i was too lazy to control the volume using the volume control panel on the desktop. Things started picking up from there and before i know, I have 8 headphones and more than 5 amps. The point here is not whether or not you should, its more to whether or not you WANT. If you are happy with what you are listening to now(which is doubt since you created this post) then you should just stick to it. If you are not then you'll have to be prepared to spend alot in your soon to be addiction. Trust me, nothing will be "good enough" from here onwards unless you get yourself all the flagship headphones(which will be continuously surpassed by newer flagship headphones). As to whether or not you will notice the difference, that too depends on you. My friends couldn't hear the differences or all my headphones, to them expensive headphones just have thicker earpads... |

If HD201 is the best you've heard then you can get VERY MUCH better sound depending on how much you are willing to pay. For outdoor use, try auditioning Senn PX100 or Koss portapro, i personally think they have the best performance vs price ratings. However, beware that your HD201 will sound as flat as an airstrip once you listened to any of those portable headphones.. |

I've tried most headphones mainly from Senn and Koss under $100. If you are looking for more expensive headphones, maybe other headwizers might be able to help you.. |

How dare you say the HD280's have bad sound? ![]() They have a quite "boring" sound at first, but IMO one can easily fix that with some EQ fiddling. Plus it's a really big difference between coming straight out of the box and when they're burned in. They do have a coiled cord and, no, you cannot hang them around your neck. The porta pro's are not what you're looking for, but I still think you should consider them. They're very cheap as well. If you want to have the looks, go for skullcandy or the porta pro's, if you want sound go for some sennheisers (em' new Hd380's look awesome, but they're so damn expensive |

Cew27, most circumaural headphones don't hang on the neck too well(plus, we do not know the circumference of your neck). Nothing is perfect, so its up to you whether to sacrifice circumaural or neck-hanging. There might be some headphones that suit your requirements, mainly the EH series from Senn and also Some Ur series from Koss, But most of them although listed as circumaural, are either really supraaurals or very uncomfortable(small sized) circumaural. I never mention about sound quality here because any headphones you buy above $20 will definitely sound better than your HD201. [Edited by jefnando on 03-13-2009 at 03:19 PM.] |

Personally, since they are both black, i prefer the look of HD280 Pro. I read that the HD380 uses the E.A.R design like the HD555 and HD595 which i find very uncomfortable. There is a weird piece of elevated plastic inside the cup that presses to the tip of my ear. I don't know but Sennheisser seem to always launch some weird line of lesser headphones simultaneously with their flagship headphones. And the lesser headphones usually just take the design of some higher end headphones but with cheaper materials and lesser paint! |

Re: other recommendations, do you need isolation? What other brands have you auditioned? A bunch of new models came out at the CES this Jan. [Edited by cmoy on 03-14-2009 at 04:47 AM.] |

Here is a random Ebay link----> http://cgi.ebay...p3286.m63.l1177 Or if you prefer a "real vendor"----> http://www.audi...products_id=319 [Edited by Mister X on 03-14-2009 at 05:56 AM.] |

Would you also like to block outside noise? And you'd headphones with good bass response? Still, you didn't like the sound of the HD280. Was that b/c the 280's bass was too light? You were able to listen to the 280s. Can you listen to any AKG or Beyerdynamic headphones? |
