I've been researching for quite some time now and the other day went out to buy a pair of AKG 240S (impulse). Let me just say first that these sound amazing for vocals. Because I'm living on campus I have not had the chance to plug this thing into a real amp and cd player, it's only been going off my iPod which I am sure does not do it justice. I've been trying these out and I'm very happy with it but the only thing is that they are HUGE. I'm contemplating buying cheap ear buds for the gym and on the go. I have a few more days to try these so I'm on here asking you guys what you guys think about this... I was thinking maybe I could pay a bit more for Beyerdynamic's DT880, I've read on this forum that it's on a whole different level, do you think it's worth the extra money? I haven't heard a pair of these because I can't find a place to demo them. How would these compare to the AKG 240S? Any input would be nice. And yes, I've used the search button and read reviews on the DT880... Thank you, |

They had too much treble energy for me. The treble was not harsh; there was just too much of it. Some owners find this a more detailed sound. The mids were good. The bass was light, but very tight and very detailed. I kept my HD 650 because I preferred their weight and warmth, and I don't think there's any "veil". The DT 880's impedance is, I think, 250 Ohms, so an iPod isn't not an ideal choice without a dedicated amplifier in the line. You might consider a portable amplifier that would drive the DT 880 either from your iPod or from a home CD player. Some of the portable amps out there are VERY good quality. Good luck! I just have order a few more parts before it's done. I think I might return the AKGs and sample more headphones. |

Beyer actually makes it in 32, 250 and 600 Ohm versions, same price ![]() I use the 880's for classical music mostly and personally think for that type of music they are hard to beat. If your looking for something musical some ppl have raved about the senn's 600's, not the 650. [Edited by Mike415 on 11-30-2006 at 12:46 AM.] |
